Almost belligerantly colorful, these photographs were meticulously created in the studio, using a Hasselblad medium format film camera.
In the Bouquet series (Elvis and Condoleezza), all but the most famous attributes of celebrities are obscured by vivid arrangements of flowers. For Elvis, his hair and just a glimpse of his lower lip show through; the famous gap in Condoleezza’s teeth is visible through a gap in the flowers. In each instance, the artifice of image-within-an-image is created by framing the celebreties photographs, then presenting them behind flowers, in an artificially casual manner, as though the iconic features were accidentally revealed.
