Kristi’s Eagle

Kristi’s Eagle

201120" x 16"Acrylic and oil on canvas

Kristi’s Deer and Kristi’s Eagle are reimagined paint-by-number paintings, originally executed by someone named Kristi in the 1980’s. In Kristi’s Eagle I precisely inverted and shifted the colors within rigid, overlapping circles, carefully replicating Kristi’s brushstrokes in new colors. In this way, my actions mirrored the paint-by-number process, albeit self-directed. The intervention in Kristi’s Deer is more comical and narrative, with the frolicking deer sporting neon pink cubes on their heads. I continued this theme by replacing the bubbly circles adorning Kristi’s dotted i’s with tiny cubes.
